Emirati driver Rashid Al Dhaheri made history at Yas Marina Circuit by becoming the first MENA racer to win a Formula Regional Middle East Trophy race. The landmark victory came during the opening round of the 2026 season, which featured 32 drivers from 11 teams competing under FIA regulations.
The weekend also marked the debut of the new Tatuus T-326 Formula Regional car, boasting advanced aerodynamics, improved handling, Pirelli tyres, and a Toyota 1.6-litre engine. Al Dhaheri quickly adapted, finishing second in Friday practice, securing pole in Saturday’s second qualifying, and ending Race 1 in second place.
In Sunday’s reverse-grid Race 2, he started 11th and finished fifth, before claiming the historic win in Race 3 from pole position, cheered on by fans, family, and his team R-ace GP. “Winning at Yas Marina, in front of my home fans and family, means everything,” Al Dhaheri said.
The series continues at Yas Marina from January 23–25, followed by Dubai Autodrome and Lusail International Circuit, giving Al Dhaheri a chance to build on his championship lead.
