Rainfall to Ease Across Sri Lanka in Coming Days – Met Department

The Department of Meteorology announced that the prevailing rainy weather conditions affecting most parts of Sri Lanka are expected to gradually ease over the next few days.

Director of the Weather Forecasting Division, Meryl Mendis, said that although overall rainfall will decrease, intermittent showers may still occur in certain areas, particularly in the eastern parts of the island.

According to the Met Department, showers are expected today (22) in the Uva Province and in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Hambantota. Meanwhile, most other areas of the country are likely to experience mainly dry weather conditions.

The Department also warned that moderate winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph, may occur at times over the eastern slopes of the Central Highlands, the North-Western Province, and the districts of Ampara, Hambantota, and Monaragala.

In addition, misty conditions are expected during the morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
