Malinda Pushpakumara Becomes Fourth Sri Lankan to Claim 1,000 First-Class Wickets
Former Test cricketer Malinda Pushpakumara has joined an elite group of Sri Lankan bowlers by taking 1,000 wickets in first-class cricket.
He reached the milestone while representing Moors Sports Club against Badureliya Sports Club at the Colts Cricket Club Ground.
Badureliya batted first after captain Geeth Kumara won the toss, posting 486 runs, with Chanuka Dilshan claiming 5-81. Moors ended the second day on 159-4, with Pushpakumara dismissing wicketkeeper Sohan de Livera to move to 999 wickets.
On the third day, he bowled Pasindu Sooriyabandara to officially join the 1,000-wicket club, becoming the 218th bowler worldwide and the fourth Sri Lankan to achieve the feat, following Muttiah Muralidaran (1,374), Rangana Herath (1,080), and Dinuka Hettiarachchi (1,001).
