In a shocking incident that has sparked national outrage, a 17-year-old Pune teen’s high-speed, drunken Porsche crash left two 24-year-old engineers dead. The teenager’s father, a prominent Pune realtor, concocted an elaborate escape plan to evade the police, but was eventually caught.
On Saturday night, the Porsche, reportedly traveling at nearly 200 km per hour, collided with a bike carrying Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshtha, both IT engineers from Madhya Pradesh, who died instantly. Following the accident, an FIR was filed against the father for allowing his underage son to drive.
To evade capture, the father executed a complex plan involving multiple vehicles and new SIM cards to mislead the authorities. Initially, he left his home in one car, instructing his driver to head towards Mumbai, while another car was sent towards Goa. Switching cars en route, he continued to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar using a friend’s vehicle.
However, the police tracked the GPS of his friend’s car and used CCTV footage to trace his movements. The Pune crime branch successfully located him at a lodge in Sambhajinagar and arrested him in a late-night raid. He is set to be produced in court today.
The teen driver was controversially granted bail within 15 hours, leading to public outrage. The bail conditions included writing a 300-word essay on accidents, working with traffic police for 15 days, and undergoing counseling for his drinking habit.
Police have now sought permission from the juvenile justice board to try the teen as an adult, a decision expected soon. In response to the incident, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar assured that they are building a strong case with robust technical and corroborative evidence to ensure appropriate punishment under the law.
