President Unveils 20MW Mannar Wind Power Plant

Sri Lanka added a major renewable energy milestone as President Anura Kumara Dissanayake inaugurated the 20MW Windscape Mannar wind power plant, developed by CEYLEX Renewables and officially linked to the national grid.

The project supports the country’s long-term plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and marks a first for the nation’s energy sector with the installation of four five-megawatt wind turbines, the largest ever commissioned in Sri Lanka.

Because the entire development was carried out by a local company, the project avoided large foreign payments, keeping valuable foreign exchange within the country and boosting the domestic economy.

At the ceremony, President Dissanayake unveiled a commemorative plaque and oversaw the commissioning of the turbines.

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, Deputy Minister Arkham Ilyas, senior CEB officials, representatives of the Sustainable Energy Authority and CEYLEX Renewables, along with other government officials, were in attendance.
