President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to travel to the Northern Province this week, where he will take part in several key official events in Mannar and Jaffna on January 15 and 16.
On Wednesday (15), the President is expected to join the Northern Province Thai Pongal celebrations taking place at the Aiyanar Kovil Grounds in Velanai, Jaffna, at 2:00 p.m. He will also attend another Thai Pongal programme arranged by the Jaffna Tourism Board at the Manipai Maruthadi Vinayagar Temple, which aims to highlight and promote cultural tourism in the region.
The following day (16), President Dissanayake will officiate the launch of the national housing initiative titled “A Place to Belong – A Beautiful Life.” This major housing development programme includes the construction of 31,218 new homes nationwide, with 2,500 allocated for war-affected families still displaced in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Weerasingham Primary School Grounds in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna.
Additionally, the Northern Province segment of the national anti-drug campaign, “A Nation United,” is scheduled for Thursday (16) at the Jaffna Technical College Grounds, where the President will serve as the chief guest
