President Invited to Undertake Official Visit to Pakistan This Year

Pakistan has formally invited President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to undertake an official visit to Pakistan this year, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Pakistan’s Minister for Interior, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, conveyed an official invitation from Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to visit Pakistan during a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat this morning, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

During the meeting, President Dissanayake highlighted that the visit of the Pakistan Interior Minister, along with the arrival of the Pakistan national cricket team in Sri Lanka, has further strengthened the long-standing friendship between the two nations. The President also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for facilitating the visit of the Pakistan cricket team following Sri Lanka’s request.

The President further appreciated Pakistan’s assistance to Sri Lanka during Cyclone Ditwah, recalling Pakistan’s consistent support during times of difficulty.

Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi stated that the decision for the Pakistan cricket team to tour Sri Lanka was taken following a direct telephone call between President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He noted that the President’s request was the decisive factor in confirming Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 matches in Sri Lanka.

The Minister conveyed the Prime Minister’s gratitude and reiterated the invitation for President Dissanayake to undertake an official visit to Pakistan this year. He also expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s hospitality and the strong support of the Sri Lankan people.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, the Minister said both countries expect to engage in detailed discussions on tourism, investment, labour market cooperation and broader regional collaboration in the future.
