Powerbox has unveiled its latest line of ruggedized power supplies, the ECD1000A, specifically designed for ground-based defense applications and demanding industrial settings. The ECD1000A series is contained within a metal IP65 enclosure and utilizes baseplate conduction cooling. It has a power output of 1000W and can operate within a temperature range of -40 to +75 degrees C.
The ECD1000A is mechanically ruggedized according to the MIL-STD-810H standard and features a conformal coating to protect its inside boards and components. This makes it suitable for highly demanding applications. The device is designed to be electrically ruggedized, allowing it to endure harsh transients and achieve stringent EMC performance levels. This makes it suitable for both common defense and more demanding industrial applications. The product complies with the MIL-STD-461 CE102 / RE102 and MIL-STD-1399-300 standards.
The power supply operates with a broad universal input range spanning from 85 to 305VAC, incorporating power factor correction (PFC). The ECD1000A is specifically engineered to ensure reliable operation, quick product launch, and compliance with commercial and military off-the-shelf (COTS/MOTS) business models. It is offered in a 28VDC output voltage variant. Additionally, the series of power supplies comprises 500W and 700W versions with 12VDC and 28VDC output voltages respectively, which are suitable for lower power distribution systems.
The ECD1000A is specifically designed to ensure efficient heat transfer from the dissipating components to the baseplate, enabling optimal performance in a temperature range of -40 to +75 degrees Celsius at the baseplate. This requires adherence to specific building practices for conduction cooling. Depending on the technique of assembly and the prevailing cooling conditions, a derating may be necessary as indicated in the technical specification.
The ECD1000A has a broad universal input range of 85 to 305VAC (Nominal 100 to 277VAC), allowing it to be used in a wide variety of applications. The unit incorporates Power Factor Correction (PFC) with a power factor rating of 0.98 at 110VAC and 0.95 at 230VAC. The ECD1000A is capable of providing a single output DC voltage of 28V/36A to power internal bus distribution systems. With the use of a high efficiency topology, the usual efficiency achieved at a 28V output and 230VAC input is 91%.
