Police arrest man after Robina Hospital goes into lockdown

[ad_1]

A man is in custody after allegedly sending a major city hospital into lockdown.

The Gold Coast’s Robina Hospital went into a ‘code black’ lockdown on Tuesday afternoon on reports of an armed man in the area.

A Gold Coast Health spokeswoman said the code went out to staff at midday and the lockdown extended for about an hour.

“In an abundance of caution, the facilities were in lockdown. This has now been lifted,” she said.

“While ambulance arrivals were being diverted away from Robina Hospital, we are now returning to business as usual.

“Walk-in emergency presentations were being accepted throughout the incident.”

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed police were called to a location near a railway station at Robina at 11.25am on reports of a man with a firearm.

“Police attended and searched the area locating a man just after 1pm who was taken into custody without incident,” the spokesman said.

The man was located with a gel blaster, the police allege.

The Robina Hospital and railway station are next to each other.

Police investigations are ongoing.
