Polestar 3 electric SUV to get $16,000 price rise months after first deliveries in Australia

[ad_1]

The Polestar 3 will be hit with price hikes of more than $16,000 on some models within months of first local deliveries, as costly option packs will no longer be included in the base price.

The price of the 2025 Polestar 3 electric SUV is poised to rise by more than $16,000 on some models after the first batch of stock coming to Australia mid next year is sold.

Prices for the Model Year 2025 (MY25) Polestar 3 have been published in the Redbook industry pricing guide – months before the arrival of the first Polestar 3s in Australia in June next year, which will be Model Year 2024 (MY24) vehicles.

The entry price into the line-up has risen by $96, to $131,670 plus on-road costs for the Long Range Dual Motor.

However a number of option packs standard on the 2024 vehicles cost extra on 2025 versions – and when specified to match its 2024 equivalent, the 2025 model is close to $20,000 more expensive.

Model Year 2024 vehicles – priced from $131,574 plus on-roads for the Long Range Dual Motor, or $143,274 with the Performance pack – are fitted as standard with the Plus and Pilot option packs, as well as rear privacy glass, and on the cheaper model, 21-inch wheels (rather than 20s).

None of these features are standard on the 2025 models, and have reverted to options: $11,700 for the Plus Pack, $910 for rear privacy glass, and $3250 for 21-inch wheels (all prices include Luxury Car Tax).

The Pilot Pack appears to have been deleted. There is a new Pro Pack ($4910 including LCT), but it is unclear what it includes – while there is still a Pilot Pack with lidar, but it includes different features to its namesake.

Optioning a MY25 Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor with the Plus Pack, 21-inch wheels and rear privacy glass brings its price to $147,530 plus on-road costs – $15,956 more than an equivalent MY24 vehicle.

And that is without fitting the Pilot Pack already standard on the MY24, which – if it is offered on the MY25 vehicle, and is priced similarly to the Pilot Pack on the smaller Polestar 2 – could cost a further $3500 to $5000.

This would push the total price rise close to – or in excess of – $20,000 within months of the first Australian deliveries of 2024 models.

The Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack is now $12,706 dearer than before, at $155,980 plus on-road costs – vs $131,574 – again excluding the unavailable Pilot Pack.

Shipments of MY25 Polestar 3s are due to follow the MY24 editions, which Polestar Australia’s website markets as “launch editions”.

According to the information published on Redbook, there is only one new feature for MY25 production – an active noise cancellation system for the interior.

The Plus Pack on 2024 vehicles added features such as 21-inch wheels, a 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins premium stereo, MicroTech textile or wool blend upholstery, soft-close doors, heated rear seats and steering wheel, cabin air quality sensors, and power steering column adjustment.

The 21-inch wheels are no longer included in the pack on 2025 Long Range Dual Motor models, and cost $3250 (or $2500 before Luxury Car Tax). The Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack includes 22-inch wheels as standard.

Meanwhile the Pilot Pack added semi-autonomous highway driving with lane centring, automatic parking, and a head-up display – while the Pilot Pack with lidar was a distinct package with advanced lidar sensor technology, upgraded computing power, and extra cameras and ultrasonic sensors.

The prices of the other options listed on Redbook that carry over from 2024 to 2025 models are unchanged – with the exception of 22-inch Sport wheels on the regular Long Range Dual Motor, which are up to $1560 cheaper after Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
