Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed that those responsible for the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening — which killed at least eight people — “will not be spared,” as authorities launch a high-level investigation into the incident.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that the perpetrators behind the deadly car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi will face justice. The blast, which occurred at 6:52 p.m. local time (13:22 GMT), claimed the lives of eight people and left several others injured, shaking one of the capital’s most popular tourist areas.
According to Delhi Police Commissioner, the explosion happened when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light before suddenly detonating. While the cause of the blast has not yet been officially confirmed, authorities are treating the incident with utmost seriousness, and multiple investigative agencies are now involved.
Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an emergency high-level security meeting with top officials, reviewing all available intelligence. “We are exploring all possibilities,” Shah stated, emphasizing that both local and central agencies are working together to uncover the truth.
Thousands of tourists visit the 17th-century Red Fort daily — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Delhi’s most iconic landmarks. The historic monument, located close to a busy trading district, has been closed for three days as investigations continue.
In a statement following the tragedy, Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring that “those behind this heinous act will not be spared.”
