PM Modi Visits Himachal and Punjab to Review Flood Situation Amid Heavy Monsoon Damage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit flood-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today to personally review the response and rehabilitation efforts after severe monsoon-triggered floods and landslides wreaked havoc across northern India.

According to official sources, PM Modi will arrive in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, at 1:30 p.m., where—weather permitting—he is expected to conduct an aerial survey of the most severely affected areas. Following the survey, he will chair a high-level review meeting in Dharamshala, where senior officials from the state administration, NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra volunteers will brief him on rescue and relief operations. The Prime Minister will also interact with disaster victims directly to hear their concerns.

Later in the day, PM Modi will fly to Gurdaspur, Punjab, around 4:15 p.m., after conducting another aerial survey of flood-hit regions in the state. There, he will hold a ground-level review meeting with top disaster management officials and interact with residents who have been severely affected by the floods.

The BJP said the Prime Minister’s visit is focused on “closely monitoring relief and rehabilitation efforts” and ensuring necessary central support for those impacted in both states.

Meanwhile, ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Punjab Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Aman Arora issued a strong statement, urging the Prime Minister to announce a relief package of at least ₹20,000 crore. He also demanded the release of pending funds worth ₹60,000 crore, which include ₹50,000 crore in GST compensation and ₹8,000 crore in Rural and Market Development Funds.

Mr. Arora stressed that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already written multiple times to the Centre, seeking urgent financial assistance to tackle the crisis and rebuild damaged infrastructure.
