Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the day as a historic step in India’s journey towards self-reliance and clean mobility. At Suzuki Motor’s Hansalpur plant in Ahmedabad, the Prime Minister inaugurated two landmark initiatives that underscore India’s growing role as a global hub for green technology.
The event saw the launch of e-VITARA, Suzuki’s first global strategic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), manufactured in India and set to be exported to over 100 countries, including advanced markets like Europe and Japan. With this, India officially becomes Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for EVs.
In addition, PM Modi inaugurated the localised production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat. The plant, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, will significantly strengthen India’s battery ecosystem. With more than 80% of battery value now being manufactured domestically, this milestone is expected to accelerate India’s green energy transition and contribute to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
“These initiatives mark a new era in India’s quest for clean energy and sustainable transportation,” the Prime Minister said. “They reflect our commitment to Make in India and a greener future for the world.”
Together, these developments highlight India’s progress in becoming a leader in electric mobility and clean energy innovation.
