Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with a delegation from the European External Action Service (EEAS) to discuss ways to further strengthen the enduring partnership between Sri Lanka and the European Union. The talks took place at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The discussions centered on boosting economic collaboration, trade, and investment between the two sides. During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya also expressed gratitude for the EU’s timely assistance following the recent cyclone and highlighted its ongoing support during critical periods, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Looking ahead, Sri Lanka and the European Union are scheduled to host the 27th Session of the EU-Sri Lanka Joint Commission in Colombo on February 12. This high-level forum will bring together senior officials from both parties to review and strengthen cooperation in areas such as governance, human rights, trade, development, and other bilateral and regional priorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The Joint Commission will be co-chaired by Aruni Ranaraja, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and Paola Pampaloni, Acting Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the EEAS.
During their visit, the EU delegation is also scheduled to meet with senior Sri Lankan officials to explore practical measures and collaborative strategies aimed at enhancing the ongoing partnership.
