Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka climbed three places to third in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings following a flamboyant century against Australia in a group B encounter of the T20 World Cup in Kandy on Monday (16).
Nissanka produced a match-defining 52-ball hundred as Sri Lanka chased down 182 to beat Australia by eight wickets and seal qualification for the Super Eights.
Nissanka, the first centurion of the 2026 T20 World Cup, finished unbeaten after hitting five sixes and 10 fours.
It was also Nissanka’s second T20I century, making him the first Sri Lankan batter to score two hundreds in the format.
Following his heroics, Pathum Nissanka with 786 rating points leapfrogged India’s Tilak Varma and Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan to third place in the rankings. India’s Abhishek Sharma with 891 points tops the ranking T20I batting rankings while England’s Phil Salt is ranked second.
