Sri Lanka’s iconic hill town Nuwara Eliya has been ranked second on Agoda’s list of must-visit hill stations in Asia, earning global recognition for its charm, climate and scenic beauty.
Often referred to as “Little England,” Nuwara Eliya was praised for its lush tea plantations, cool and pleasant weather, and well-preserved colonial-era architecture. According to Agoda, the destination continues to attract travellers seeking a peaceful retreat amid misty mountains, rolling tea estates and historic landmarks.
The ranking highlights hill stations across Asia that stand out for their natural beauty, cultural appeal and relaxing atmosphere. India’s Shimla claimed the top spot, followed closely by Nuwara Eliya, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a premium travel destination.
Other destinations featured on the list include Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), Sapa (Vietnam), Bandung (Indonesia), Thimphu (Bhutan), Munnar (India) and Dalat (Vietnam).
Tourism stakeholders say the recognition further strengthens Nuwara Eliya’s position as a favourite among both local and international travellers, particularly those seeking cool-climate escapes and authentic highland experiences.
