With demand for heritage number plates never being higher, a new selection of never-before-seen NSW combinations is about to head to auction.
Collectors and investors alike will have a chance to purchase a selection of newly-released NSW heritage number plates when they head across the auction block later this month.
Lawsons has announced it is holding an auction for 15 combinations – including six three-digit, seven four-digit, and two five-digit plates – on 27 June 2024.
While the three-digit plates will demand the highest prices, it’s expected buyers will also gravitate to combinations with consecutive numbers and patterns – including ‘2666’, ‘3434’, ‘5335’, ‘6868’, ‘8338’, ‘42424’, and ‘67776’.
In April 2024, Lawsons sold NSW ‘1114’ and ‘3535’ for $215,000 each – the most paid for four-digit combinations in that auction – despite lower number combinations being available.
NSW ‘442’ was the best-selling three-digit plate at that event, bringing $295,000 at the hammer.
However, ‘611’ is expected to be the star of the upcoming show, given its resemblance to 911 – Porsche’s iconic sports car.
NSW ‘611’ could even surpass ‘966’, which sold at the April auction for $395,000.
Along with the rights-to-display, each set of number plates will come in a presentation box, accompanied by a smaller vitreous enamel replica as a keepsake.
As the number plates have just been released by Transport for NSW and have never been displayed, there are no transfer fees for buyers – though a premium of 8.25 per cent (including GST) applies to each sale.
