It only took a brisk two hours and 28 minutes, and Novak Djokovic is into the fourth round.
He wins the third-set tiebreaker 7-2, having won the first two sets 6-3, 6-3.
“It was a great match,” Djokovic says in his post-match interview.
“The best performance I had during this tournament. I am pleased … with the way I played through the entire match, particularly the first two sets. He stepped it up and raised his level of tennis probably one or two levels in the third set. We went toe to toe in the third set. We went toe to toe in the tiebreaker … and I guess I found the right shots.”
Despite the straight sets scoreline, Argentine opponent Tomas Etcheverry showed strong resolve, in particular in the third set.
Next in Djokovic’s path will be either Adrian Mannarino or Ben Shelton who, much to the Serbian’s pleasure no doubt, are about to embark on a fifth set on a hyped-up Kia Arena.
