A body has been found inside the wreckage of a two-storey home in Sydney’s affluent northern suburbs after a massive blaze.

About 9.30am on Saturday, emergency services were called to Hollywood Crescent in North Willoughby after reports of a house fire.

During a search of the home later in the evening, a body was located inside.

The person is yet to be formally identified.

Aerial photographs show a large crane shooting water down onto the roof of the home as thick smoke rose above the tree line.

Bright orange flames emerged through the skeleton of the roof structure.

A firefighter was injured while working to extinguish the blaze and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Ultimately the home was destroyed, FRNSW said.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command have established a crime scene which will be forensically examined.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the fire, however, the cause is not yet known.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information into the incident or dashcam footage is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
