Quaynor, like Josh Daicos and Jordan De Goey – who was particularly good in a rampaging opening quarter – sat out the second half, with Mason Cox, Tew Jiath and pre-season recruit Lachie Sullivan among those to enter the fray in the third term.

Ex-Docker Lachie Schultz was quiet in the first half but bobbed up with a goal assist from a neat pass to Ash Johnson then a wonderful finish of his own in the third quarter.
Patrick Lipinski, who set up Schultz’s goal with a perfect kick, was excellent for Collingwood and looks ready to be a key contributor, while Reef McInnes and Johnson continued their pre-season battle for a forward spot.
Both McInnes and Johnson kicked two goals in regulation play, with McInnes adding a third in the first five-minute scenario period and Johnson a third in the second five-minute scenario.
What you need to know
North Melbourne look like they are going to prioritise attacking handball and speed on the ball, and the addition of Fisher will undoubtedly help that, as well as fourth-year midfielder Charlie Lazzaro, who has had a strong summer. There was little to read into Collingwood’s performance, given they had most of their best talent watching from the sidelines.
Expert’s view
It is still unclear which tall defenders will line up for the Kangaroos in the opening round. Toby Pink, Kallan Dawson and Biggy Nyuon all played on Wednesday, with the former – previously on Sydney’s list – looking a frontrunner at this stage. Charlie Comben, who has switched to defence, did not play. Draftee Colby McKercher and Harry Sheezel look likely to spend plenty of time at half-back, although Sheezel had some midfield cameos as well. McKercher was not quite as clean as he was in last week’s intraclub hit-out but had no trouble finding the ball.
We can ignore much of the Magpies’ day, but there is a lot to like about McInnes’ development, and it will be interesting to see if Craig McRae backs him in early or goes for the more-established Johnson. Jakob Ryan also did some good things without his more experienced teammates alongside him down back.
