The iconic Nine Arch Bridge in Ella-one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated tourist landmarks—has been illuminated under a heritage monument lighting project jointly executed by the Department of Railways and the Central Cultural Fund.
The 104-year-old bridge, constructed during British colonial rule, has long captivated local and international travellers. The new lighting system enhances its night-time appeal while preserving its historic essence.
A total of 70 warm white electric bulbs were installed after a preliminary lighting test to ensure ideal illumination with minimal impact on the structure. The system meets global heritage lighting standards, maintaining the bridge’s architectural integrity while delivering a memorable visual experience.
