New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 45 runs in the second T20I at Mount Maunganui on Monday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Sri Lanka were dismissed for 141 as New Zealand’s skipper Mitchell Santner secured his first series win in his debut assignment as the full-time white-ball captain for the hosts.
Having won the toss, Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka chose to bowl against the Kiwis where they were set a 187-run target to keep the series hopes alive.
However, the wickets in the latter stages affected the Sri Lankan run-chase.
The tourists lost 7 wickets for just 14 runs to hand the Kiwis a convincing 45-run win.
Kusal Perera top scored for the visitors with 48 runs while Pathum Nissanka chipped in with 37.
Jacob Duffy (15/4) was the pick of the bowlers for the home side.
