New Chairman Appointed to Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha

Sameera Danushka de Silva from the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) has officially been gazetted as the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, following the tragic death of former Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekera.

Wickramasekera, who secured the chairmanship after a tight 23–22 vote victory against the National People’s Power (NPP) on July 24, was fatally shot inside his office on October 22 in broad daylight — a shocking incident that left the community in grief.

With the new appointment, Sameera Danushka de Silva is expected to continue the administrative work and community initiatives that were underway in Weligama under the late chairman’s leadership.
