An elderly man has suffered a slash wound to his finger while trying to fight off an alleged home invader in Melbourne’s southeast.
Victoria Police said officers were called to Troups Creek Promenade, Narre Warren, about 11.45pm Saturday after reports a man had broken into a home and was confronted by the occupants.
“A scuffle ensued and one of the residents, a 77-year-old man, suffered a laceration to his hand,” a police spokesperson said.
“The offender ran from the property, got onto an allegedly stolen dirt bike and rode off.”
A man riding a dirt bike was spotted on nearby Ohio Court about 12.40am Sunday, when he allegedly ditched the bike, jumped fences, and tried to evade officers by climbing onto the roofs of homes.
Police dogs tracked the man and he was arrested.
The 18-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries, with no charges laid at the time of writing, while the 77-year-old man received treatment for his wound at the scene.
