Microsoft is set to invest up to $50 billion by 2030 to boost artificial intelligence initiatives across countries in the Global South, according to a report by Reuters on February 18.
The announcement came during an AI summit in New Delhi, where top executives from leading AI companies met with several global leaders. The term “Global South” generally refers to developing or lower-income nations, many of which are located in the southern hemisphere.
The massive investment underscores Microsoft’s long-term commitment to emerging markets, as global competition in AI continues to intensify. Microsoft has already expanded its footprint in key growth markets. Last year, the company revealed $17.5 billion in AI investments in India, highlighting its focus on one of the fastest-growing digital economies. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening AI infrastructure and improving access to advanced computing technologies.
