Microchip and TSMC strengthen semiconductor manufacturing capacity through an expanded partnership.

Microchip Technology has announced an expansion of its partnership with TSMC, a prominent semiconductor foundry based in Taiwan. This expansion will facilitate the development of a specialized 40 nm manufacturing capacity at Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing, Inc. (JASM), which is a manufacturing subsidiary majority owned by TSMC in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

This partnership is a crucial step in Microchip’s continuous efforts to strengthen the resilience of its supply chain. Furthermore, the company is actively pursuing opportunities to enhance its internal manufacturing capabilities and capacity through investments in advanced technology. Additionally, it aims to establish a more diversified and redundant network of partners in wafer fab, foundry, assembly, test, and OSAT, ensuring geographical diversity and operational efficiency.

Microchip’s reputation for responsible and trustworthy supply management is further strengthened by this new TSMC manufacturing path, as stated by the firm. TSMC’s resilient and strong manufacturing capabilities will boost customers’ trust in integrating Microchip’s devices into their applications and platforms.

JASM’s provision of wafer capacity enhances Microchip’s capabilities to cater to a diverse range of worldwide customers in various sectors, such as automotive, industrial, and networking applications.

TSMC North America affirms that its collaboration with Microchip is more evidence of TSMC’s dedication to fostering the sustained expansion and ingenuity of its clients. The enhanced partnership with Microchip will guarantee that as cutting-edge technologies advance, TSMC’s overall capacity to produce and provide such capabilities to worldwide consumers will also progress.

The cooperation with TSMC and the increase of JASM capacity provide further certainty to the semiconductor manufacturing environment, mitigating the risk of supply disruptions for Microchip. This is achieved by countering external variables such as volatile business conditions and natural disasters.
