Meet Sumeet Saigal: The ‘Sauce Boss’ of MasterChef Australia

Sumeet Saigal, a Sydney-based home cook, has captivated audiences as one of the top 12 contestants in Season 16 of MasterChef Australia.

Rooted in her Punjabi heritage, Sumeet’s love for food blossomed in Bangalore, India. Her culinary journey began by helping her parents prepare for parties, inspired by her late mother Kamal’s hospitality and her paternal grandfather, Darji, a freedom fighter and passionate cook. Darji’s gift of a cookbook sparked Sumeet’s lifelong curiosity and creativity in the kitchen.

The ‘Sauce Boss’: Despite a career in sales after studying hotel management, Sumeet’s true passion remained in cooking. She finds solace and meditation in the kitchen, using it as an escape from stress. Known as the ‘sauce boss’ on MasterChef Australia, Sumeet excels in using spices to create modern Indian cuisine with a twist. Her dishes feature bold flavors of coriander, garlic, and chili, with versatile sauces that add a hint of India to various cuisines.

Sumeet’s mission transcends the competition; she aims to simplify Indian food and highlight its versatility. She strives to dispel the notion that Indian cuisine is solely rich, spicy, heavy, or complicated, presenting it instead as accessible and adaptable.

Drawing confidence from her 17-year-old twins, Sumeet is supported by her father Gurkirpal, brother, sister-in-law Sunena, and her husband Gurvinder, her number one cheerleader. She has even resigned from her job to fully commit to the MasterChef Australia challenge.

While winning the MasterChef Australia trophy is her immediate goal, Sumeet’s true victory lies in her self-belief and the growth of her culinary skills. Join in cheering for her as she embraces this exciting journey on MasterChef Australia Season 16.
