A mechanic has shared a shocking DIY campervan fail in a lesson of what not to do if you’re fitting out a van for travelling.
Daniel Ridley, who goes by @ridleysautomotive on TikTok, shared a video of a van in his workshop with a screw right through the fuel tank, causing it to leak.
The van was fitted out with a bed in the back.
He warned people pursuing what is dubbed as “van life” on the social media to check where they’re putting their screws.
In the video viewed almost 140,000 times, Mr Ridley said: “If you’re going to build a campervan just don’t Tek screw into your fuel tank or this happens.”
“Those people shouldn’t be allowed to get their hands on power tools,” one person criticised in the comments.
“I accidentally cut through the brake lines on one of the work vans while doing the fit-out,” confessed someone else.
“That was one of my main concerns. It’s crazy just drilling through stuff Willy-nilly,” wrote a third.
The #vanlife hashtag on TikTok has more than 18 billion views globally, with many Aussies sharing the process of converting an ordinary van into a campervan by themselves on the app.
The hashtag #vanbuild has another 2 billion views globally, and #vanlifeaus has more than 7 million views.
