Marysville, Victoria: Man airlifted to hospital after falling from 10 metre cliff

[ad_1]

A man in his 80s has been airlifted to hospital after falling from a cliff in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges.

The man is understood to have been at the Keppel Lookout near Marysville, about 100 kilometres northeast of Melbourne, when he fell.

He plunged more than 10 metres to the base of the cliff.

Four emergency workers rappelled to where the man lay before providing first aid.

He suffered a gash to his head along with pelvic injuries.

Paramedics strapped the man to a stretcher before he and an emergency worker were winched to an ambulance helicopter.

He was flown to the Alfred Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The head wound is being treated as serious due to the man’s age.

Authorities note that the trail to the lookout contains difficult terrain.

“The most challenging trail in the area, the Keppel Lookout Trail is fairly uneven and steep in places,” Visit Melbourne warns visitors.

“Wear sturdy footwear and carry water and snacks.”
