The Sri Lankan Cabinet has greenlit a transformative project to develop the Marine Drive stretch from Kollupitiya Railway Station to Dehiwala, spanning 7.4 kilometers, under the exciting theme “Marine Nights, Awakening Colombo.”
Announced by Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, the initiative aims to revitalize this prime coastal area to boost tourism and urban vibrancy. A Cabinet Paper was presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and the Tourism Minister, highlighting the project’s significance for Colombo’s future.
Special emphasis will be placed on enhancing the 400-metre stretch from the end of Galle Face Green to S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, signaling the start of a broader plan to invigorate the city’s waterfront.
The development is expected to attract both local and international visitors, creating a dynamic blend of entertainment, commerce, and leisure along Colombo’s iconic Marine Drive.
