The Peliyagoda Manning Market has taken a major step into the digital era with the launch of a new Online Payment System by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
The event, attended by Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, and Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara, introduced a platform that allows vendors and traders at the country’s largest wholesale market to make tax and daily payments via mobile devices through the web portal fmis.uda.lk.
Deputy Minister Weeraratne emphasized that the initiative aligns with the National Digital Transformation Strategy, aiming to reduce queues, save time, and promote transparency and financial security in market operations. Several market vendors also showcased live transactions during the launch.
Developed by the UDA’s IT Division, officials said the system is expected to expand to other major economic centers across the country, marking a significant move toward cashless, technology-driven commerce in Sri Lanka.
