Mahinda Rajapaksa Asserts: “Namal Rajapaksa Has Ample Time for Presidential Aspirations”

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed reporters in Anuradhapura today, expressing confidence in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s (SLFP) ability to resolve its internal issues promptly. Rajapaksa also commented on the political landscape, stating that the formation of alliances, including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) aligning with former members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), poses no challenge. Additionally, he assured that the SLPP will nominate a candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election after deliberations with its members, dismissing rumors of MP Namal Rajapaksa’s imminent candidacy.

Addressing speculation surrounding the SLPP’s presidential candidate, Rajapaksa affirmed that the party would indeed nominate a candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election. He clarified that the decision would be made following consultations with active SLPP members. “Definitely, they will name a candidate. We didn’t summon them [party members] as of yet. We’ll take a decision after holding discussions with them,” he remarked.
