A hotel with luxury facilities built inside two railway compartments has been completed at the Ratmalana Main Railway Yard by its own workers, General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara announced. The unique hotel, named “Odyssey Camper,” is set to open in a few days.
The luxury hotel on wheels has now been relocated to Nanuoya, offering guests stunning views of waterfalls and the scenic hill country landscape. According to the General Manager, this innovative project was the creation of employees from Workshops 21, 25, and 26 of the Ratmalana Railway Yard.

An old Indian railway compartment and a locally manufactured one were repurposed to build this unique camper hotel. The facility includes open spaces for guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings, rooms with attached bathrooms and hot water, and breakfast provided by the Nanuoya Railway Bungalow.
The Odyssey Camper project was carried out under the supervision of Railway Superintending Engineer (Projects and Development) G.A. Krishantha and Supervising Manager of Workshop 26 H.J.R. Fonseka, on the instructions of GMR Dhammika Jayasundara.
The Railways Department said the new hotel offers an ideal holiday option for visitors to the hill country, combining the charm of railway travel with modern hospitality comforts.
