In an act of honesty and kindness, a wallet lost on the Colombo to Kandy intercity train was found and returned to its rightful owner, George, a New Zealand national. The wallet contained Rs. 96,000 along with several cards. It was misplaced at the Kandy Railway Station, where a railway assistant spotted it and, with the help of the travel police, ensured its safe return.
The man who found the wallet shared, “I was on the intercity express train that arrived at 6 pm. After the train stopped, I noticed a wallet on the floor and immediately handed it over to the authorities. I was really happy to help, especially because it belonged to someone who contributed to the country’s economy. I also want to thank my supervisor for his guidance, as it was his advice that led me to do the right thing.”
George, the wallet’s owner, expressed his gratitude, saying, “A wallet that was lost on a train from Colombo to Kandy was returned. I thought it was gone, but then I saw a Facebook message from the guy who found the wallet. He handed it to the police with all the cards and cash still in it. It’s amazing! I’d like to thank the man who found the wallet and the Sri Lankan police. Amazing work—thank you!”
George’s friend added, “Very happy today, and very happy for my friend. Really efficient work all around. It shows the morals of the people here—good morals, good values. The easy way out would have been to take the wallet for yourself, but it just shows the character of the man. What a beautiful person. Outstanding work. We absolutely love Sri Lanka. The people here are nothing short of amazing. The hospitality is incredible, and everything from the food to the people is wonderful. We’ve only been here for 48 hours, but I already feel like I’m at home. Lovely place!”
Sri Lanka continues to shine through the actions of its people, displaying their warmth and hospitality to visitors from all around the world.
