Landslide Alerts Issued to Residents in Two Districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings for multiple areas in two districts of the Central Province, urging residents to exercise caution due to recent heavy rainfall and potential slope instability.

The advisory, released at 6:00 a.m. on February 13, will remain in effect for the next 24 hours, with authorities emphasizing the importance of vigilance, especially in regions prone to landslides.

For the Nuwara Eliya District, Level 2 (Amber) warnings have been issued for the Walapane and Nildandahinna Divisional Secretariat Divisions and their surrounding areas. Residents in these locations are advised to stay alert, avoid risky zones such as steep slopes or riverbanks, and follow guidance from local authorities.

In the Kandy District, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning has been declared for the Pathahewaheta Divisional Secretariat Division and nearby regions. This advisory encourages communities to remain watchful, monitor weather updates, and take precautionary measures while moving through affected areas.

The NBRO continues to monitor weather and soil conditions closely and has called on the public to remain attentive to further warnings and updates. Authorities also advise avoiding unnecessary travel to high-risk areas and to report any signs of landslides or ground movement to emergency services immediately.
