Lady Gaga has been pushing fashion boundaries long before it became mainstream to do so. From her iconic meat dress to emerging from an egg, Lady Gaga is a creative shapeshifter who steps onto a red carpet with a purpose and a story.
But fans missed out on her presence a few weeks ago for fashion’s biggest night of the year — the 2024 Met Gala — an event she hasn’t attended since she co-hosted in 2019 when she wore not one, not two, but four outfits. Despite her absence, Gaga decided to share exactly what she would have worn to this year’s Met, and wow did we miss out.
On Friday, the singer and actor shared several photos on Instagram wearing an elaborate outfit from designer Aziz Rebar and wrote in the caption, “THIS IS WHAT I WOULD HAVE WORN TO THE MET GALA. THE GIMP OF THE GARDEN. 🖤”
This year’s Met Gala theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with the dress code being “The Garden of Time.” Gaga’s would-have-been ensemble fit right in. The dramatic black embroidered top included an arched design that extended from one arm to the other, completely covering her top half — aside from her face. Gaga wore a detailed mask by Philip Treacy and was photographed holding a red flower in her mouth.

The outfit didn’t go to waste though — the designer, Aziz Rebar, revealed on his Instagram that Lady Gaga wore the ensemble to a Gaga Chromatica Ball viewing party in Los Angeles on Friday. The forthcoming concert movie will premiere on Max on May 25 and documents her showstopping Chromatica Ball tour from 2022.
“I am incredibly thankful to have been part of the Chromatica Ball journey and this beautiful full circle moment,” the designer wrote in the caption. “[Lady Gaga] wearing a custom lace corset top at the chromatica ball viewing party in LA.”
