International pop star Katy Perry is currently under investigation by the Spanish government following allegations that her production company, WeOwnTheCity, caused ecological damage while filming the music video for her latest single, “Lifetimes,” on the island of S’Espalmador. The island, located near Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea, is part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area known for its critical role in supporting migratory bird populations and marine habitats.
According to a statement issued by the Government of the Balearic Islands on August 13, the Environment Department has initiated a preliminary investigation after it was discovered that the production company did not secure the necessary permits before filming. The investigation centers on potential damage to the delicate sand dunes, which are considered an ecologically significant feature of the park. Despite these concerns, the case is not currently being treated as a “crime against the environment.”
The video for “Lifetimes,” directed by Stillz, features Perry enjoying a tropical getaway filled with various activities, including dancing, motorcycle riding, and dune-cavorting. The impact of the production crew on the dunes is under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation.
This development comes amid a challenging period for Perry, who has faced criticism over her album rollout, particularly regarding the music video for her lead single, “Woman’s World.” Additionally, Perry’s collaboration with Dr. Luke, who has faced allegations of serious misconduct, has sparked further controversy.
As of now, representatives for Katy Perry have not responded to requests for comment.
