Electronic passport control has taken a step forward at Bandaranaike International Airport with the official opening of four new E-Gates at the arrival terminal today.
The automated gates were introduced under a project funded by the Japanese government, aimed at improving passenger processing efficiency and reducing waiting times for arrivals. With the new system in place, eligible travelers can complete immigration clearance more quickly using biometric verification, helping ease congestion during peak travel hours.
Airport authorities said the initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure and enhance the overall travel experience, while strengthening border management through advanced technology.
