Kasuni Mendis for Kowan Ward: A Vision for a Safer, Cleaner, and More Transparent Casey

Kasuni Mendis, a long-time resident of Berwick, is running for the Kowan Ward in the upcoming City of Casey Council elections. With over 25 years of experience living in the Casey community, Kasuni is passionate about creating a safer, cleaner, and more transparent environment for residents.

As a dedicated member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and a Council Officer in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Kasuni brings extensive knowledge of local governance and a strong commitment to community service. She has been an active community leader, serving as the President of the Casey Multi-Faith Network and the Casey Residents and Ratepayers Association. Through these roles, she has become a well-known advocate for community causes, striving to build stronger and more inclusive neighborhoods. Her involvement in various council advisory committees on Environment and Sustainability, as well as Access and Inclusion, highlights her dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Casey residents.

Kasuni’s platform focuses on three key issues:

  1. Advocating for Better Roads: Casey’s road networks are in urgent need of upgrading, and Kasuni is determined to push for improvements that ensure safer and more efficient transportation for all residents.
  2. Improving Core Services: Efficient delivery of services such as park and reserve maintenance is critical for providing value for the rates paid by residents. Kasuni will work to ensure these services are streamlined for maximum benefit to the community.
  3. Building Community Cohesion: Kasuni believes in fostering a sense of unity and security within the community. By strengthening neighborhood bonds and encouraging participation in local initiatives, she aims to create a safe and inclusive environment for all.

In addition to her council work, Kasuni is an L2P Mentor, helping young people gain driving experience-a testament to her commitment to youth and their future. She has also directed her campaign with integrity, ensuring it is entirely self-funded, with a budget of $8,000.

Kasuni’s motivation to run stems from her deep-rooted connection to the Casey community. “I know that I can make a positive difference with my background, knowledge, and experience. There is more work to be done in our municipality to build the community we deserve,” she says.

Kasuni will direct her preferences to candidates who are truly committed to the betterment of Casey, prioritizing community service over personal gain. As she continues her journey, she invites residents to join her in shaping a future where Casey thrives as a safer, cleaner, and more transparent city.

Together, with Kasuni Mendis, Casey can move toward a brighter tomorrow.
