Twenty-seven individuals, including the daughter of Kandy Deputy Mayor Ruwan Kumara, were arrested during a police raid on a drug party organised via social media in the Teldeniya area, police confirmed.
Sri Lanka Police arrested 27 persons, including the 26-year-old daughter of Kandy Deputy Mayor Ruwan Kumara of the National People’s Power, following a raid on a party organised through Facebook in Teldeniya.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday (13) at a hotel located near the Victoria Reservoir, where the event was reportedly taking place.
During the raid, police seized a significant quantity of narcotics, including 4,134 milligrams of crystal meth (ice), 1,875 milligrams of hashish, 2,769 milligrams of kush, 390 milligrams of cocaine, 804 milligrams of mushrooms, 13 narcotic pills, and 12 illicit cigarettes.
Among those arrested were 24 men aged between 18 and 31, hailing from areas such as Kandy, Mulleriyawa, Hatton, Athurugiriya, Homagama, Dompe, Embilipitiya, Trincomalee, and Ja-Ela. The four female suspects, aged between 21 and 26 — including the Deputy Mayor’s daughter — are residents of Kandy, Negombo, and Pundaluoya.
All suspects were produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court and were released on surety bail of Rs. 100,000 each. They have been ordered to reappear in court on December 17.
