Meet Richard

Prior to entering politics, Richard Welch was an experienced businessman and inventor who spent 14 years as the founding CEO of a sports technology business that pioneered AI motion tracking technology that has been used by leading cricket bodies around the world including Lords Cricket Ground.

Before starting his own business Richard worked in financial services for Bankers Trust, Mercury and Merrill Lynch before obtaining an MBA from Imperial College, University of London and a Certificate of International Trade & the Political Economy, from The London School of Economics.

Richard’s business expanded across four countries, creating jobs for hundreds of local families, especially in India. His work boosted local economies, deepened his appreciation for local cultures, and led him to learn conversational Hindi.

The areas of policy Richard is most passionate about are energy, decarbonisation and nuclear energy, tax debt strategy, local government reform and ensuring Victoria is an innovative state, producing the best technology and knowledge the world has to offer.

Today Richard and his wife Mandy live with their two children in North-Eastern Melbourne, not far from where they were married in Eltham in 2001. In his spare time Richard still dabbles in the occasional game of cricket for his local club.
