In a major boost to Sri Lanka’s aviation and tourism sectors, Jetstar, a subsidiary of the Qantas Group (Australia), is gearing up to commence scheduled flight operations between Melbourne and Colombo starting 28 August 2026.
The airline will operate three flights per week using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which can accommodate around 300 passengers. This new route is expected to strengthen travel and trade links between Sri Lanka and Australia, benefiting both leisure and business travelers.
According to Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (AASL), the Jetstar team has already held discussions with the relevant authorities, and all necessary facilitation and coordination processes are currently in progress.
The launch marks a significant step in enhancing Sri Lanka’s international connectivity and could further promote tourism and economic cooperation between the two nations.
