Janani Imathma was crowned the winner of Derana Dream Star – Season 12 at the spectacular grand finale held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Saturday night (January 17), marking a memorable conclusion to one of Sri Lanka’s most popular reality television competitions.
The much-anticipated grand finale began at 7.30 p.m., with the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium filled with an enthusiastic crowd of fans, celebrities, and music lovers. The night was brought to life with grand celebrations, emotional moments, and outstanding musical performances by the finalists.
Three talented contestants — Anupama Gunathilake, Janani Imathma, and Brian Hanks — advanced to the final stage of the competition after a challenging and closely contested season.
Following their final performances, Janani Imathma emerged as the winner, securing the highest number of viewer votes. Anupama Gunathilake was announced as the first runner-up, while Brian Hanks claimed the position of second runner-up.
Derana Dream Star remains one of Sri Lanka’s longest-running and most influential reality television programmes. First launched in 2008 by TV Derana, the show has played a key role in discovering and nurturing musical talent across the country.
From Season One to Season Nine, winners were selected through SMS voting, and the programme was not aired live. Since Season Ten, the show has evolved into a live reality competition, with winners chosen through online public voting, further increasing audience engagement and excitement.
Janani Imathma’s victory adds another milestone to the rich legacy of Derana Dream Star, as she joins the list of celebrated artists discovered through the platform.
