The Rolls-Royce Ghost luxury sedan has been turned into one of the fanciest hearses on sale – with an interesting name.
An Italian hearse builder has unveiled what could be the most luxurious ‘final destination’ vehicle ever built – a Rolls-Royce Ghost with a custom coffin-carrying compartment.
Named the ‘Ghoster’ – yes, that is its real name – the hearse was built by Biemme Special Cars in Italy and is based on a Rolls-Royce Ghost, albeit with a sizable extension to make it fit-for-purpose.
While the front of the Rolls-Royce looks almost identical to the Ghost which can be bought in showrooms, the sedan’s wheelbase has been extended and a massive glasshouse added, allowing the car to retain its standard passenger space without the coffin impeding on the interior.
Speaking of the cabin, the Rolls’ luxury interior has been enhanced with additional sound deadening, Briar wood, folding tables and even a mini-bar. In what is an unusual choice for a vehicle of this type, the ‘Ghoster’ is fitted with a high-power 18-speaker, 1300-watt sound system.
At the rear, the chassis has been extended with a tube-frame structure, steel and glass, while the coffin-loading platform is operated automatically and lined with bright lights.
There are no changes to the Ghost’s twin-turbo 6.75-litre V12 engine, which continues to produce 420kW/850Nm.
Biemme Special Cars doesn’t list a price for its Rolls-Royce Ghoster hearse, though it’s expected to be even more expensive than the circa-$650,000 price tag commanded by standard versions of the luxury sedan in Australia.
The Italian firm also builds hearses based on Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar models.
