Talks between Iran and the United States have reportedly begun in Islamabad, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB. However, it remains uncertain whether the discussions are taking place directly or through intermediaries.
If confirmed as face-to-face negotiations, this would mark the highest-level direct engagement between Tehran and Washington since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
The reported talks come at a sensitive time, with tensions still high despite a fragile ceasefire. Neither side has officially clarified the full scope or format of the discussions.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump commented on the situation via his Truth Social platform, claiming that Iran is “losing big” in the ongoing conflict.
In a lengthy post, Trump criticized media narratives suggesting Iran was gaining ground, insisting instead that the country was suffering major setbacks across its military capabilities.
He further asserted that Iran’s naval and air power had been severely weakened, along with its missile, drone, radar, and air defence systems, while also claiming disruptions to its leadership structure.
Trump also referred to the reported use of sea mines, stating that the United States was taking steps to clear the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an effort to ensure safe passage for global shipping.
