Australia’s Pat Cummins will miss the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka due to a persistent back injury. The 32-year-old, who played only once in Australia’s 4-1 Ashes series victory over England, has struggled with back problems for over six months.
Although initially included in the provisional squad, Cummins has been replaced by left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis in the final 15-man squad. Former Test opener Matthew Renshaw also joins the team, taking the spot of Matt Short. Selector Tony Dodemaide praised Dwarshuis, highlighting his pace, swing, fielding, and lower-order hitting as ideal for the tournament conditions.
Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, are currently preparing with a T20 series in Pakistan. Veteran Steve Smith, despite strong Big Bash performances, was not included in the squad. The Aussies open their World Cup campaign against Ireland on 11 February in Colombo.
