India’s Bhambri Enters ATP Doubles Top 20

Yuki Bhambri, a standout athlete from the Roundglass Tennis Academy, has achieved a career milestone by breaking into the ATP doubles Top 20, reaching a career-high World No. 20. This accomplishment makes him the first Indian men’s doubles player to enter the elite rankings since Rohan Bopanna and confirms his position as India’s top-ranked doubles player.

The 33-year-old leapt from his previous ranking of 22, marking his first appearance in the ATP doubles Top 20. This rise comes after a series of strong performances across ATP Tour events and Grand Slam tournaments, showcasing Bhambri’s consistent form on the international stage.

Partnering with Sweden’s Andre Goransson, Bhambri made waves at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, reaching the third round and collecting crucial ranking points. The duo opened with straight-set wins over local wildcards James Duckworth and Cruz Hewitt, before staging a dramatic comeback against Santiago Gonzalez and David Pel, winning 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. Their run ended in a closely fought third-round clash with Brazil’s Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos, 6-7(7), 3-6.

Bhambri’s rise has been steady since the 2025 season. That year, he reached the US Open semifinals alongside New Zealand’s Michael Venus, narrowly losing to Britain’s fourth-seeded team of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski despite leading in a set and break.

In March 2025, Bhambri clinched his first ATP 500 title at the Dubai Tennis Championships, partnering Australia’s Alexei Popyrin. The pair overcame a set deficit and saved four match points to defeat reigning US Open and Australian Open doubles champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 3-6, 7-6(12), 10-8 in a thrilling final.

Earlier in the season, Bhambri also became India’s No. 1 doubles player, ending Rohan Bopanna’s remarkable 286-week reign at the top.

Looking ahead, Bhambri is set to compete in the ATP 500 events in the Middle East, aiming to further improve his ranking before joining the Indian team for the Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands. His rise reflects both his talent and determination, solidifying his place among the world’s elite doubles players.
