In a dazzling display of skill and precision, the Indian women’s compound archery team clinched their third consecutive gold medal at the World Cup. Meanwhile, the mixed team added a silver to India’s medal tally, showcasing the country’s rising dominance in archery.
The world number one Indian women’s compound team showcased their prowess right from the start, securing a six-point lead and maintaining it throughout the match. Their victory adds to their recent wins at the World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai and the Stage 4 event in Paris, marking a hat-trick of gold medals.
However, in the compound mixed team final, Jyothi and her partner Priyansh narrowly missed out on gold. Despite an early lead, they were defeated by the USA’s Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullivan by two points (155-153). The Indian pair started strong with a near-perfect score of 39 out of 40 in the first end but struggled to maintain consistency. The USA team capitalized on this, making a comeback to secure the gold.
In the women’s team final, the second-seeded Indian team began impressively, edging out their fifth-seeded rivals by one point in the first round. Demonstrating complete supremacy, the Indians drilled in five perfect 10s with two Xs in the second round, extending their lead by four points at the halfway mark. Despite Turkey’s effort to match India’s score in the penultimate round, the Indian team sealed the win with another round of high scores.
A third medal is anticipated in the compound category, with Prathamesh Fuge just one win away from his first individual World Cup podium finish. Fuge, who upset 2021 world champion Nico Wiener in the quarterfinals, will face world number 7 James Lutz in his bid for a medal.
