In a strong response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, India has revoked all valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals and suspended key bilateral agreements, marking a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions.
In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the revocation of all valid Indian visas issued to Pakistani nationals, effective from April 27, 2025. The decision, ratified by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), forms part of a comprehensive set of retaliatory measures against Islamabad.
The suspension includes all categories of visas, with the exception of medical visas, which will remain valid only until April 29. Additionally, permits issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) have been cancelled, and Pakistani nationals holding such permits are required to exit India within 48 hours.
The Attari Integrated Check Post, a key border crossing between the two nations, will be closed immediately. Individuals currently transiting through Attari will be allowed to return to Pakistan by May 1.
The MEA has also issued a strong advisory urging Indian citizens to postpone any planned travel to Pakistan. Those already in Pakistan are advised to return to India as soon as possible.
Further intensifying its stance, the Indian government has announced the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan provides a firm and verifiable commitment to cease support for cross-border terrorism.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reaffirmed India’s determination to pursue those responsible for supporting and perpetrating acts of terror. Citing the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana, Misri emphasized India’s commitment to delivering justice.
The CCS strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists—25 Indians and one Nepali. The Indian government has pledged swift justice for both the victims and the broader cause of national security.
These actions send a clear and forceful message: India will not tolerate terrorism or those who enable it.
