India Observes State Mourning for Iran President Ebrahim Raisi

India has declared a one-day state mourning on May 21 to honor the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash. The national flag is flown at half-mast on all official buildings, and all official entertainment events are suspended during this period.

The somber decision comes after the devastating crash on May 20, which claimed the lives of President Raisi, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and several other officials. The helicopter went down in a foggy, mountainous region in northwest Iran, as reported by Iranian state media.

“In respect to the departed dignitaries, the government of India has decided that there will be one day’s state mourning on May 21 (Tuesday) throughout India,” a government spokesperson stated.

The Home Ministry confirmed the observance of the state mourning, emphasizing that the national flag will be at half-mast on all buildings where it is usually displayed. Additionally, no official entertainment activities will take place during this period as a mark of respect.
